Continuing from my previous post about trying to define a dream and some basic reasons behind our dreams. In this post I'll try to explore the types of dreams we have and can we align the different types of dreams into a single wholesome dream?
The world has been continuously changing ever since the man decided to explore his surroundings. As a human being we like living in a small world of our own. We try to make our professional and personal lives as comfortable for ourselves as we can. But in the very thought of making our lives more comfortable lies the inevitable change from the current. Sometimes this change is difficult to comprehend from our "sensible" mind so we dream about it!
So we can say that a dream is an instrument of change. The question that arises next is what are the "things" we can change using this instrument? To understand this we have to delve into our everyday life. In today's world an everyday life is lived at various fronts. But here I would consider two principal fronts; personal and professional. My motivation behind considering them is these two fronts make up for most of our lives and we are constantly trying to balance them.
We all have personal dreams which we hold dear. I say personal dream(s) since all us at any time have at least more than one. For example as a child we want to be close to our parents, play with our best friend or get hold of that favourite toy. As we grow up these dreams adapt to our growing maturity. Among all these personal dreams there are a few or just one which evolves as we evolve.
The other major front, which we worry about a lot too, is our professional front. Throughout the history of mankind it has played a major role to an extent that we even cast other dreams to suit it. A major portion of our useful hours in a day are spent at work. It is quite different from the personal dreams, in professional dreams we have to form plausible plans. These plans can be achieved through diligence and require a personal discipline as well.
The internal and external circumstances around us helps us to define and redefine our dreams. Throughout our lives our belief system is affected by materialism, nationalism, spiritualism etc in various proportions. Some of these dreams we are able to give the shape of goals and we work on them. But others we have to either put on hold or even let go.
But is there a way to align our personal and professional dreams? Should there be a boundary to our dreams? These and many other questions linger on in our minds and continue to poke us from time to time. But lets defer it till the next post. Thank you.
