My Personal Journey into Vaisheshika Darshan - First Question - Dharma

Hindu Philosophy is unique in its way that it includes Samkhya (rationalism and atheism), Yoga (focusing on mental as well as physical study) and Nyāya (logic/rules) as part of its six philosophies. While world debates on monotheism, atheism, iconoclasm, superiority, equality, proselytization and other such subject which are bound to create controversy and divisiveness, Hinduism is comfortable in the diversity of thoughts from ancient time and is still evolving. As author, Prafull Goradia in his book Hindu Masjids , says 'it is well known that the conceptual purpose of every Hindu is self actualisation". Some call it moksha , mukti , nirvana or bhagwat prapti . Although the goal sounds a simple enough endeavour yet for a logical mind there needs to be a rationale that helps you to identify this as a goal one needs to focus & strive for. I think Hinduism is the only religion (or way of life ) which believes in self-critique, debates, logical analysis and takes considerable...

Keep Learning - A life of Street Fighting

Too often we find ourselves feeling bored or simply too overwhelmed by the day to day challenges. And too often we take these situations or the circumstances as an excuse to push us in the corner. We let the circumstances that are generally temporary to stay with our mind for longer than what's a healthy dose! How can something that is debilitating be healthy? Adaptability - Remove your mind from the attack In Bruce Lee's martial art, Jeet Kun Do, one of the underlying philosophies is "adaptability". Street fight like life is unpredictable. There are times when you have to "remove the target" i.e. your mind, that is being continuously hit by this barrage of emotions; feeling of boredom, stagnation, negativity, sadness or overwhelming life challenges. Parrying - Spend time in self-development Other times you've to intercept these challenges. You've to push through the tough times through tools of self-control, courage, learning, and self-dev...

Your Very Own Philosophy

Finding Me My life is not a dissertation, so there are bound to be flaws in my opinion, so please understand that's exactly what it is - my opinion. The words to follow are my set of belief that are laden with prejudice and to some extent not entirely founded on proof or certainty. However in the interest of all those who might just agree with me - I'll have to write this piece of opinion. In a world filled with human beings every opinion is evaluated on the criterion of usefulness of the opinion towards the society (or some may say a greater good served by the opinion). To me an opinion serves a much different purpose as well. It forcefully opens a new door in the mind of the reader. It gives you a new direction to channel your thoughts. And after going through with the flow and meandering through the alleys filled with bias and disagreement/agreement you reach your own decision. At the end of the day, I've to decide what drives me or what is worthy of a more p...

Your Very Own Philosophy

Life is all about hits and misses. You win some and you lose some. So what's the difference between those who seem to go through rough times with smile a and those who keep seeking help from outside? I feel there's just one difference, those who like to survive have dug deep into their mind and devised a surviving mechanism. It is their philosophy in life, attitude, and confidence; call it whatever you want to but it is something personal that drives them. Recently I came across two such "philosophies" and this post is simply about sharing these gems without tainting with my opinion. So here are those words by a couple of persons whose name you may not necessarily recognize. John Picarello "If you love something but choose not to do it professionally, it's not a waste. Because, you know, you still have it. You have it forever." Sounds so refreshing and honest, right? To find out who is John Picarello you'll have to go through this...
