The biggest challenge anyone can have is to adopt a different perspective than their own. It calls us to use every ounce of trust, respect and care we can garner from our conscience or heart. A perspective not our own leaves a feeling of vulnerability and insecurity; emotions we always try to run away from. Yet these are the emotions which can lead to higher rewards and realizations if we develop the patience to sustain them for longer periods of time.
What is a different perspective? It is the point of view you haven't explored yet. It is the deviation from the fixed, the desire to find out what's beyond the horizon or simply the desire to experience the unknown. Whatever we do with our lives there is always other things that could have been done too! But it is not always about taking the bold step into the unknown. It is just about accepting the presence of unknown. This itself leads to an enlightenment that it's not always about me. It's about somethings which may be unclear to me right now but they exists around me. If only I can let my ego (or my view) melt away for a moment I may become more receptive to better things. I am giving myself more chances to learn more things, ultimately I am making myself a better man.
Why do we fear a different perspective? The answer is simple it makes us feel uncomfortable. It is the eternal human quality to look for comfort. It is the fear of the unknown; which may lead to our next failure. We all try to avoid emotions which have hurt us in past. It leads to a feeling of rawness which leaves us more vulnerable. But its from this rawness we achieve greater sensitivity towards a different perspective. It forces us to think and explore the unknown. And perhaps even leads us to a success through a failure. The "me" goes away and I live in the moment; as actors may call it.
So it's not about me all the time. The "me" is needed; it is who we are. But it is not needed all the time, especially you are stuck and cannot find a way out. The more we can practice to look from a different perspective the better would be our rate of learning. If the rate of learning is higher better are the chances I may stumble upon something extraordinary. The courage to adopt a different perspective would help us to relieve ourselves of the burden of "me" that we carry with us all the time. It will make us free to do new things with ourselves.
