A while back I wrote about so many books (so little time) on my list. Another point of view - so many revelations waiting to be revealed to the ignorant me, lying on my desk gathering dust. So here are the two books I've on my March 2013 list:
Crisis Economics - A Crash Course in the Future of Finance by Nouriel Roubini
I'm still reading it! I was curious about the financial crisis of 2008. It is perhaps the biggest event of my life. It has affected millions of my generation in a way no other single event has. Subprime, derivatives, CDOs and whole other "soup of alphabets" came into the life of ordinary men and women.
It was interesting to read how regularization and de-regularization throughout this century has brought us into this mess. Is there a single right way? Why did some of the best minds in economics screwed up (maybe the greed overcame everything else)? I hope I've an answer when I'm able to finish going through this crisis. It's a must read for anybody trying to understand the supply chain of money. Whether it's government, banks, careless lenders, failed corporations, Madoffs' or the ordinary man - all are part of this chain that defines how we'll live our lives.
The Meaning of It All - Thoughts of a Citizen Scientist by Richard Feynman
The only reason I picked up this book was that Richard Feynman seems to present a more open view on the subject of God & spiritualism. Unlike Richard Dawkins & Stephen Hawking he doesn't come out all guns blazing against religion. The underlying philosophy of any religion need to be understood before forming an opinion.
Spiritualism to me is a philosophy that needs more attention than just pointing out the ridiculousness of mythologies and miracles. Even with a rational mind somethings in life are inexplicable with our current knowledge. Something unknown doesn't implies the lack of thereof - it just implies we have to keep looking further. Even in science a little bit of faith is a must. So why stop before truly understanding what spiritualism is!
The title is a play on the name of the movie "Ides of March". A must watch for any George Clooney fan.
