I am fascinated by the idea of aliens. I do believe in the line from the movie Contact - if we're all alone in this universe, it sure seems like an awful waste of space. On a humorous side note, even Steven Spielberg believes in aliens; didn't surprise me at all!
The idea of alien seems to bifurcate the otherwise open-minded scientific community into 'Hmm-not-so-sure' and 'We-should-keep-looking'. The proof of life is evident in conditions labeled hazardous by homo sapiens' norms.
In fact, Biology has a word for organisms that survive in extreme conditions - extremophile. Microbes were found thriving in extreme conditions of Mariana Trench, 11 kilometers deep and a pressure of over 1000 times we human beings face on surface.
"Life finds a way", said Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum's character in the movie Jurassic Park). Despite being afflicted with cardinal sins and many more; us humans are capable of reaching highest of achievements.
Frank Drake came up with a guesstimate that can be used to, well guess, the number of alien civilization in Milky way capable of communicating over long distances and having survived the ordeal of technological progress.
Even the economist believe (or believed, I hope, before the recession of 2008) in the invisible hand that self-regulates the behaviour of a marketplace. BUT, a belief in a divine hand is somehow religulous.
Let's not get into that. As per Darwinism we may be the smartest of the homo genus having developed into a species that is so technologically connected that sometimes the real voice goes unheard (sic). We are capable of amazing feats when either paid or slaved or pursue out of passion.
So I was appalled when "ancient astronaut" theorists claimed that many of the ancient wonders such as Puma Punku, pyramids of Egypt, Nazca lines, Moai of Easter Island etc are all feats of aliens who visited Earth thousands of years ago in their rocket-ships.
For Pyramids “In order to really move massive amounts of stone like that, they would have had to have been levitated, somehow made weightless and then moved through the air by some sort of device. Perhaps even a handheld device like some sort of beam weapon.”
The people behind ancient aliens hypothesis, couple of them claiming to be the real-life Indiana Jones, seem to mock at the ingenuity of human civilization and the evolution of mathematics & science over centuries.
I guess there are no written records of designers of Machu Picchu or Puma Punku or most of the ancient wonders. However we cannot simply ignore the creativity of brains from Imhotep to Mandelbrot.
Ancient Aliens manages to create ripples in the water, with no "real" research involved; interested readers can take a look at another couple of documentary "Ancient Aliens Debunked" and more importantly "The Case of Ancient Astronaut (PBS NOVA)".
While the former goes step by step in dissecting the claims within ancient aliens hypothesis, the latter brings out fallacies that are part of the original hypothesis before it became an international craze to believe in aliens unreasonably & without any proper judgement.
I'll let the curious reader come to their conclusion after going through all the resources available on the internet. Ciao!

There may be thousands of such civilization, or maybe just one, I don't know. I'll let SETI scan the skies for a message from my cousin light years away. The science begs us to take a leap of faith to believe in Rare Earth Hypothesis.
