Some of you might have seen a movie called "Good Will Hunting". The movie is about an orphan whose family are his three other friends and his desires are limited to the neighborhood he grew up in. Although blessed with an extraordinary gift for mathematics he is too feeble to take a chance for something even slightly larger and complicated. The tag line for the movie says it all "Some people can never believe in themselves, until someone believes in them". Although my current post doesn't have much to do with the movie but it did caught your attention, right?
My post is more about "God Will Hunting" rather than "Good Will Hunting". It is about the perpetual hunting we all go through in our lives. The hunt for desires, success, money, love, passion; so it is either something or someone. We are hunting not just looking because hunt is more painstaking. We toil in our lives each day and night to build a world of our own. A world which we feel comfortable with and slowly begin to embrace others into our world. As this world grows bigger the likelihood of losing a part or whole of it increases. In fact most of us realize the most constant thing in our lives is the change. Everything tends to fluctuate in all the four dimensions whether growth or degeneration.
All these fluctuations tend to affect our psyche inadvertently. Author Elizabeth Gilbert states in her talk at TED about creating a psychological construct which would protect her inner self from these fluctuations in the outer self. Some use drugs as a psychological construct however the effectiveness of it is doubtful at least and harmful at most. However Spiritualism gives a more powerful and enduring construct. While briefly reading through Japji Sahib (Japji is a universal song of God composed by Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of the Sikh faith) I found out it states that:
"Hukami Rajai Chalan, Nanak Likhiaa Naali"
Guru Nanak Dev ji says that always believe in the will of God and remain compliant to His will.
Guru Nanak Dev ji further states our greatness lies in believing in His will. By His will we either achieve worldly riches or poverty. All our happiness and and sorrows are on His will. In fact nobody is out of the grace of God whether the grace is in form of triumph or hardship. Understanding and believing this gives us the best psychological construct we can ever dream of. It separates our inner self from the troubles or achievements of the outer self. Because when the outer events affect our inner self the psyche is impacted. This impact hinders our progress in to the next level of understanding in our life. We all have our fair share of experiences where the outside events prevented us to take the next step. Hanging to the past, hanging onto a moment, living in the past; all these phrases sums up the effect of outer events.
To sum up, if we can believe in the God Will and continue to hunt towards His will we would live a more enlightened life. So have a happy God Will Hunting.
Admission: I have only partially explored Japji Sahib. Only a drop from this vast ocean inspired me to write this post. If interested you can continue to explore other places in it! Thanks for reading.
