I was wondering about my doubts and prejudices I have at this stage of life. It is in human trait to suffer from these emotions. But history has given enough evidence to form a case when humans have risen beyond their flaws
I recently saw the movie "Invictus". It is based on the true events that lead to South African national rugby team, the Springboks, winning the 1995 rugby world cup. The movie shows how two persons from completely different backgrounds rose above their beliefs and prejudices to unite a country broken by apartheid. These were South African President Mr. Nelson Mandela and the captain of the South African rugby team Francois Pienaar.
Clint Eastwood directed this movie. It stars Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar. The movie is thought provoking and inspires you to dream big. It in its' limited time depicts the segregation created by decades of apartheid in South Africa. However I was captivated by the song played during the end credits. The song is called 9000 days. The reference being the 27 years Nelson Mandel spent inside prison until his release in 1990.
Here are the lines from the song (quote and unquote):

I thank whatever
Whatever Gods may be
9000 days were set aside
9000 days of destiny
9000 days to thank Gods where ever they may be
These lines made me think about the 27 years Mr. Mandela spent in the jail. I am 27 years old and cannot imagine spending that time in jail. Of course it is a hypothetical situation I am putting myself into. But if I could just rewind and take a look at all the things I have done it would be even harder to imagine. I can't imagine living a life in a cell where your extended arms would touch the opposite walls. I can't imagine the hard labour the prisoners had to undergo. My mind is too feeble and callow to imagine a life in prison.
However I have lived 9000 days in my prison. In my prison of ego and prejudice. Somebody said to me that I have a duty to fight against myself for self-emancipation. To rid myself of false pride and self-doubts. Perhaps these are the two enemies that remain undefeated in any man's life. If as per the wishes of God I have another 9000 days I must work on cleansing myself with my own heart and mind. For in the process of cleansing I might find my destiny. Referring to the song the writer says these 9000 days were not spent in prison but set aside by God for self-realization. Through this process I will find my destiny. Perhaps destiny is not a destination but a journey which must be taken to enjoy the fruits at the end. The goal was living the 9000 days of destiny.
